Saratoga of the South

Georgia Downs:  Thoroughbred racing in The Peach State.

The state of Georgia, is trying to legalize what’s officially known as pari-mutuel wagering by allowing local communities to put the matter to a vote.

“Educators think it’s wonderful,” said Lisa Amey, a real estate agent in Newnan. She represents a group of investors who have raised $20 million for the construction of a track and training facility south of Atlanta to be called Georgia Downs. Ms. Amey said the track and adjoining hotel would create 600 jobs, not counting suppliers.

  1. Georgia Really needs this. Thoroughbred racing will open up doors to Quarter-horse racing, and make Georgia a destination location for events like this. Saratoga, the Aquaduct, Churchill Downs, and the like make money year round, brings tons of jobs to the areas, and roll income into the local economies. If this falls through, goo look at the Crawford County/Roberta GA area for a location.
